Top 10 Autumn and Winter Movies 2019

Since Summer is now over I’ve decided to another Top 10 list for the 10 movies I’m looking forward to for the rest of 2019 this includes Autumn and Winter.  While there are blockbusters released during these periods Autumn is usually firm ground for Independent films and their time to shine in the spotlight. For this list I’m goanna try and have a mixture of both to keep it fresh as Autumn and Winter really are usually Independent Cinema’s stomping grounds.

10. Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker

Like my summer movies list some people would be shocked that this isn’t in the top five however I have my reasons, I’ve never really been a hardcore Star Wars fan I’ve always considered myself more of a casual fan and while I have watched the movies and played a few of a games I’ve never really gone beyond that. I was interested to see the direction Disney was going to take the series as so far I haven’t been disappointed (until Solo A star wars Story came out). That being said I have begun to get a little tired of seeing Star Wars everywhere since it came back in 2015 which is another reasons why Rise of Skywalker is at Number 10. That being said I am interested in seeing how this will all wrap up, seeing these character’s one more time and to be fair Star Wars always had a more Christmas vibe to it. Overall I’m excited but not that hyped.

9. El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie

Normally I wouldn't put a TV Movie or Netflix Movie on my lists but I’m such a Breaking Bad Fan that I had to include this one. Walter White is easily one of the best villains in Television History and the show remains one of my favourites of all time. So to see them come out with a Jessie Pinkman movie is exciting as we can finally give this character an ending (weather it’s happy or tragic remains to be seen). The fact that very little has been told about this movie (I didn’t even know when it was shot) is what makes it exciting, only one teaser trailer has been released and Jessie isn’t even in it but mentioned just gives me chills. The title is also quite cool and has a Breaking Bad vibe to it. My only disappointment is that it’s not coming to theatres as I would of loved it see it in a movie theatre rather then a laptop screen but in all fairness that’s where Breaking Bad found it’s fans in the first place so it’s only fair. Overall I can’t wait to see what this movie is about hopefully they’ll release one more trailer for it but who knows.

8. Rambo Last Blood

I have a confession to make: I’ve never seen the Rambo movies, mostly because I’ve never gotten round to it but they have been movies that I want to see and now with Rambo Last Blood coming out now will be time to get catching up. The movie looks like a throwback to Sylvester Stallone earlier work and the type of action you see during the 80’s with lost of blood and heavy violence. Stallone looks better then ever showing that age really is just a number and after his emotional return as Rocky in Creed 1 and 2 it’s good to see him wrap  up another classic character of his own making. Hopefully I’ll now catch up on the other movies before going to see this one.

7. Jumanji The Next Level

Another of the 20 movies The Rock has coming out, the first Jumanji sequel with this crew was not too bad when I watched it on NOWTv a few months ago, it was a fun little adventure with a good cast and light-hearten tone that knew what it was and what it needed to be without ruining the Robin Williams original (unlike a certain live action remake from this summer). The sequels focuses on a lot more of that and looks to be more of the same however with the game now being broken it means that it can bring more tension to the characters and dangerous situations. Dwyane Johnson’s Danny DeVito impression is hilarious and Jack Black’s new character looks just as funny as his last one and Kevin Hart looks…..okay. Overall it seems more of the same with a few differences but sometimes that’s not a bad thing  as long as it keeps the sense of fun from the last one it should be a good distraction.

6. 21 Bridges

21 Bridges looks amazing with a story that’s pretty unique and different and considering that it’s Bryan Kirgs first feature film that’s pretty exciting. The plot envoles New York City going on lockdown to catch two cop killers. The action looks intense, the character’s looks interesting Cheswick Bosman looks as badass as ever as well as a decent supporting cast. It defently has a more of a Collateral vibe to it being that it takes place within a certain amount of time and looks to be very fast paced because of it. 21 Bridges looks promising and I’m hoping it lives up to it (though with The Russo’s Producing it most likely will be)

5. Frozen 2

Frozen was a surprise hit for me, when the teaser trailer came out it gave me Ice Age vibes which really isn’t a good thing. However when the movie came out it was awesome film which took the Disney Princess tropes and did something new with them rather then the typical conventions. The sequel has been very tightly under wraps with very little being explained in the trailers, nether less the animation looks amazing showing Disney’s talent and increasing in technology and shows that even animated films need budgets too (cough cough Illumination Entertainment cough cough ).

4. A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood

I’m from the UK so I know nothing about Mr. Rodgers other then he was a guy that wore a red sweater. Even so that’s probably why I’m intrigued to go see this movie when it comes out. Whenever I see people mention him they always seem to have a smile on there faces so have a bio-pic of some kind will help me understand why everyone in America loved this man (which makes sense why they got Tom Hanks to play him. This has been a pretty good year for Hanks with his latest choices and also Toy Story 4 and by the looks of things this film looks to be another tear jerker.

3. Zombieland Double Tap

The long awaited Zombieland sequel is finally coming out and I could not be more excited, I loved the first one and it’s different take on the zombie genre (I don’t care what the purists say), the comedy worked and the cast all had good chemistry with each other with Woody Harrison being the stand out. With the sequel it seems to follow a simpler plot with Little Rock running off with some other guy that Tallahassee calls a Hippie, so they have to follow her. As well as this the zombies have evolved since last time as well and bumping into several new characters along the way. Also, Bill Murry is coming back and Dan Aykroyd as well (figures). My hope is for this motive to kick start Ruben Fleischer’s directing career again because after the release of the first film a lot of his other movies have not done so well such as 30 Minutes or Less, Gangster Squad and last years Venom have all done poorly in terms of critical reception so hopefully this movie can re-show everyone what made him a good director in the first place.

2. Terminator Dark Fate

It’s a risky venture putting a Terminator movie on a Top 10 List as this is a franchise that’s been in flux since Terminator 3 Rise of the Machines. Terminator 1 and 2 are my favourite movies  and this is a franchise that has kept letting me down time after time with Genisys being the final straw for me as that movie didn’t even feel like a Terminator movie to me. However there seems to be some hope with this new instalment, Tim Miller is directing and James Cameron is retuning for the first time in years, Linda Hamilton is coming back as Sarah and Edward Furlong is back in some capacity as John Connor. The R Rating is also making a return after a string of PG-13 films which didn’t fit Terminators style. The action looks huge and the plot looks to be going back to basics, Arnold looks as awesome and Overpowered as ever (dude needs to be a Smash Bros character). The reason why this isn’t number one is because of the history of the series promising something great and ending up being total crap. That being said the whole “gone woke” bullshit that’s been thrown around about this movie is terrible and completely not fair as they’re been a lot of hard work put into this movie.

1. Joker

Yes Joker is my number one for Autumn and Winter seasons of 2019, this has been a very interesting movie to follow right from it’s announcement. I remember people actually being angry due to the Joker getting an origin story but honestly considering it’s not part of the DCEU (if that’s even still a thing anymore) but it’s also more of a What If type of story that not selling itself as THE origin for the prince of crime. Todd Phillips was always an interesting choice to direct it but considering the dark humour in the Hangover films and War Dogs it does make sense why they picked him to write and direct this movie. The tone looks great with dark bleak realistic look at Gotham during 1981 and also has more of a Martin Scorsese to it and Is very much like Taxi Driver. Overall Joker is my number 1 film from this the Autumn and Winter seasons of 2019 and considering it got a standing ovation after its first screening I think I’ve picked the right one.

Dishonourable Mention

Top 10 Summer Movies 2019

Because British summer time starts on the 31st of March, I’ve decided to list the movies that I’m most looking forward to across the summer season this year. While it’s been in a bit of a rut in a last few years Summer still remains my favourite time of year to go to the cinema to kill a couple of hours. So I thought just for fun I’d list my personal 10 most anticipated films this year list. The way this will work is 10-6 will be the films that while I’m not excited about I am interested in seeing and 5-1 will be the ones I am exciting about seeing. Also don’t except any of the live action Disney remakes on this list as I’m boycotting those, enjoy!

10. Toy Story 4

I feel like the response to Toy Story 4 being at number ten will be about the same as the response that the movie has had so far: mixed. When it was announced by in 2014 my first response was to post a clip from ‘The Thick of It’ where Malcolm Tucker screams the line “For F**k sake”. Like everyone else I was pretty satisfied with the ending to Toy Story 3 and how it wrapped up the trilogy nicely, Andy grew up and the toys found a new home, it was a heavy and emotional ending that left many people (myself included) in tears by the time it was over. So when Toy Story 4 was announced it felt like a punch to the gut as it meant that the thirds films perfect ending was officially ruined.  And honestly things didn’t get a lot better when the first trailer dropped and they introduced “Frokey”, who so far looks to be the Jar Jar Binks of the Toy Story movies, his look is just…weird and this voice so far is really annoying (also the name sounds stupid). Another thing I’m worried about for this movie (which I noticed after the new trailer that dropped recently) is how much of a role all of the other characters are going to play like Jessie, Rex, Ham and The PhatatoHeads as the new trailer only focuses mostly on Woody, Buzz, Bo Peep and (sadly) Frokey which makes me worry that the others won’t be featured very heavily.

That being said though I won’t lie there’s still a part of me that’s (somewhat) interested in what will happen in this movie and the more smaller and personal story given in the recent trailer helps that, It’s also nice to see that this movie is pretty much being marketed as the last in the series meaning that (Hopefully) Toy Story 5 won’t be a thing. So overall while I wouldn’t say I’m exited I am curious at least even if the only word that pops into my head whenever I watch the trailer is Irrelevant.

9. Detective Pikachu

While number 9 and 10 should be the other way around (Detective Pikachu at 10 and Toy Story 4 at 9) there is a few redeeming factors that make Detective Pikachu higher on this list then Toy Story 4. The obvious one being it’s the first of it’s kind as fans have been crying for a live action Pokémon movie for years now. Another thing I like is how faithful the film makers have been to the designs of the characters and how unlike the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie was able to make them look exactly the same but with added texture (like fur etc etc) which is a nice touch and bringing back Ikue Otani to voice him when other humans are speaking to him is also nice too . However that being said with years of rich history, law and thousands of games and stories you could of adapted from it dose raise an eyebrow that the first thing you adapt is the game where Pikachu f***ing talks.

It’s just a bit too distracting how a character (who’s mostly stayed silent) all of a sudden be pouncing English sentences and words. Even so It dose look like a fun (if not dumb) time at the cinema and might be enjoyable enough to get a pass.

8. Hellboy

Call me crazy (actually please don’t) but I haven’t seen the two Guillermo del Toro Hellboy movies with Ron Perlman or read any of the comics this movies based on, I’m not really sure why maybe the character didn’t appeal to me back then, whatever the reason I am actually interested in this reboot, for one it’s R-Rated which Deadpool and Logan proved to be a good thing but I also think suits the type of Character that HellBoy is, another thing is the comedic tone of the film. I haven’t seen the other two so I have no idea if this is staying faithful to the source material but I kind of like it. It gives the movie more of a punk edge but also that it’s not taking itself seriously and just enjoying itself. Either way I’m interested who knows I might actually watch the last two after seeing this.

7. Shazam

DC has been on a strange role recently with the exception of Justice League a lot there films have been….Well….Good? Wonder Woman was amazing and while I haven’t seen Aquaman I’ve heard good things. Shazam has me interested the most as it seems to be if ‘Big’ was a superhero movie, the more comedic and self aware tone gives it more of a enjoyable feel and Zachary Levi performance looks incredible considering he’s playing a 15 year old boy in a mans (or hero’s) body. Overall Shazam looks like a fun time which is what you expect from a summer movie.

6. Hobbs and Shaw

Like Hellboy Fast and Furious has never interested me, I’m not sure why thought it really has just never grasped my attention. The spin-off movie though has me slightly intrigued though I think that’s because of my love for The Rock and his baldhead. Johnson and Statham seem to have good chemistry with each other and Idris Elba once again seems like a badass yet self-aware kind of villain. Like Hellboy the movie seems to have a fun tone and not really taking itself to seriously once again this seems like a fun time.

5. Spider-Man Far From Home

After the disaster that was The Amazing Spider-Man 2 seeing the character be brought into the MCU was a welcome change, sure it lead to some drastic changes from the source material but if that’s what’s needed to us to get good Spider-Man movies I’m all for it. Far From Home look great, Mysterio looks to be in interesting villain and the fact that where FINALLY getting a movie that’s completely outside of New York is refreshing.  Adding Nick Fury and finally seeing these two interact looks to be interesting however I do hope he doesn’t become Peter’s mentor as that would remind everyone too much of the Ultimate Spider-Man Cartoon also maybe more references to Uncle Ben would be nice.

4. Rocketman

As a Pansexual man I’m glad to see more biopics made about LGBTQI+ icons and while the recent news of Paramount trying to cut out a sex scene to avoid an R Rating is stupid (it’s a movie about Elton John what the f**k where you expecting) that still hasn’t ruined my excitement for this movie. Taron Egerton continues to show his range as a an actor and what he can do, the visuals looks fantastic and the theme of fantasy just fells so Elton John it’s hard to put into words. Not really much to say about this one except pure excitement.

3. Tolkien

Another biopic except this ones about the author who wrote Lord of The Rings, considering LOTR is of my favourite trilogy’s finding out how he exactly come up with idea seems interesting to me. While biopics have a reputation for not being 100% accurate usually that doesn’t stop me from enjoying the movie (if it did I wouldn’t of liked The Social Network or Steve Jobs). The theme of art and language as seen in the trailer seems interesting and the visuals shown as references for LOTR should make any nerd happy.

2. John Wick Chapter 3 Parabellum

Let me just get this out of the way right now, I f***ing love John Wick, the character, the films, the action everything. To me its Keanu Reeves best role (Sorry Bill and Ted Fans) and seeing this epic trilogy conclude will be the highlight of the summer for me if I’m honest. Halle Berry even looks great with her character looking just as badass as Keanu's and giving him a partner seems interesting. Also any action movie with Dogs in it is a plus in my book.

1. Avengers Endgame

Lets be honest if you didn’t think this would be Number One

You’re an Idiot
