Top 10 Autumn and Winter Movies 2019

Since Summer is now over I’ve decided to another Top 10 list for the 10 movies I’m looking forward to for the rest of 2019 this includes Autumn and Winter.  While there are blockbusters released during these periods Autumn is usually firm ground for Independent films and their time to shine in the spotlight. For this list I’m goanna try and have a mixture of both to keep it fresh as Autumn and Winter really are usually Independent Cinema’s stomping grounds.

10. Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker

Like my summer movies list some people would be shocked that this isn’t in the top five however I have my reasons, I’ve never really been a hardcore Star Wars fan I’ve always considered myself more of a casual fan and while I have watched the movies and played a few of a games I’ve never really gone beyond that. I was interested to see the direction Disney was going to take the series as so far I haven’t been disappointed (until Solo A star wars Story came out). That being said I have begun to get a little tired of seeing Star Wars everywhere since it came back in 2015 which is another reasons why Rise of Skywalker is at Number 10. That being said I am interested in seeing how this will all wrap up, seeing these character’s one more time and to be fair Star Wars always had a more Christmas vibe to it. Overall I’m excited but not that hyped.

9. El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie

Normally I wouldn't put a TV Movie or Netflix Movie on my lists but I’m such a Breaking Bad Fan that I had to include this one. Walter White is easily one of the best villains in Television History and the show remains one of my favourites of all time. So to see them come out with a Jessie Pinkman movie is exciting as we can finally give this character an ending (weather it’s happy or tragic remains to be seen). The fact that very little has been told about this movie (I didn’t even know when it was shot) is what makes it exciting, only one teaser trailer has been released and Jessie isn’t even in it but mentioned just gives me chills. The title is also quite cool and has a Breaking Bad vibe to it. My only disappointment is that it’s not coming to theatres as I would of loved it see it in a movie theatre rather then a laptop screen but in all fairness that’s where Breaking Bad found it’s fans in the first place so it’s only fair. Overall I can’t wait to see what this movie is about hopefully they’ll release one more trailer for it but who knows.

8. Rambo Last Blood

I have a confession to make: I’ve never seen the Rambo movies, mostly because I’ve never gotten round to it but they have been movies that I want to see and now with Rambo Last Blood coming out now will be time to get catching up. The movie looks like a throwback to Sylvester Stallone earlier work and the type of action you see during the 80’s with lost of blood and heavy violence. Stallone looks better then ever showing that age really is just a number and after his emotional return as Rocky in Creed 1 and 2 it’s good to see him wrap  up another classic character of his own making. Hopefully I’ll now catch up on the other movies before going to see this one.

7. Jumanji The Next Level

Another of the 20 movies The Rock has coming out, the first Jumanji sequel with this crew was not too bad when I watched it on NOWTv a few months ago, it was a fun little adventure with a good cast and light-hearten tone that knew what it was and what it needed to be without ruining the Robin Williams original (unlike a certain live action remake from this summer). The sequels focuses on a lot more of that and looks to be more of the same however with the game now being broken it means that it can bring more tension to the characters and dangerous situations. Dwyane Johnson’s Danny DeVito impression is hilarious and Jack Black’s new character looks just as funny as his last one and Kevin Hart looks…..okay. Overall it seems more of the same with a few differences but sometimes that’s not a bad thing  as long as it keeps the sense of fun from the last one it should be a good distraction.

6. 21 Bridges

21 Bridges looks amazing with a story that’s pretty unique and different and considering that it’s Bryan Kirgs first feature film that’s pretty exciting. The plot envoles New York City going on lockdown to catch two cop killers. The action looks intense, the character’s looks interesting Cheswick Bosman looks as badass as ever as well as a decent supporting cast. It defently has a more of a Collateral vibe to it being that it takes place within a certain amount of time and looks to be very fast paced because of it. 21 Bridges looks promising and I’m hoping it lives up to it (though with The Russo’s Producing it most likely will be)

5. Frozen 2

Frozen was a surprise hit for me, when the teaser trailer came out it gave me Ice Age vibes which really isn’t a good thing. However when the movie came out it was awesome film which took the Disney Princess tropes and did something new with them rather then the typical conventions. The sequel has been very tightly under wraps with very little being explained in the trailers, nether less the animation looks amazing showing Disney’s talent and increasing in technology and shows that even animated films need budgets too (cough cough Illumination Entertainment cough cough ).

4. A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood

I’m from the UK so I know nothing about Mr. Rodgers other then he was a guy that wore a red sweater. Even so that’s probably why I’m intrigued to go see this movie when it comes out. Whenever I see people mention him they always seem to have a smile on there faces so have a bio-pic of some kind will help me understand why everyone in America loved this man (which makes sense why they got Tom Hanks to play him. This has been a pretty good year for Hanks with his latest choices and also Toy Story 4 and by the looks of things this film looks to be another tear jerker.

3. Zombieland Double Tap

The long awaited Zombieland sequel is finally coming out and I could not be more excited, I loved the first one and it’s different take on the zombie genre (I don’t care what the purists say), the comedy worked and the cast all had good chemistry with each other with Woody Harrison being the stand out. With the sequel it seems to follow a simpler plot with Little Rock running off with some other guy that Tallahassee calls a Hippie, so they have to follow her. As well as this the zombies have evolved since last time as well and bumping into several new characters along the way. Also, Bill Murry is coming back and Dan Aykroyd as well (figures). My hope is for this motive to kick start Ruben Fleischer’s directing career again because after the release of the first film a lot of his other movies have not done so well such as 30 Minutes or Less, Gangster Squad and last years Venom have all done poorly in terms of critical reception so hopefully this movie can re-show everyone what made him a good director in the first place.

2. Terminator Dark Fate

It’s a risky venture putting a Terminator movie on a Top 10 List as this is a franchise that’s been in flux since Terminator 3 Rise of the Machines. Terminator 1 and 2 are my favourite movies  and this is a franchise that has kept letting me down time after time with Genisys being the final straw for me as that movie didn’t even feel like a Terminator movie to me. However there seems to be some hope with this new instalment, Tim Miller is directing and James Cameron is retuning for the first time in years, Linda Hamilton is coming back as Sarah and Edward Furlong is back in some capacity as John Connor. The R Rating is also making a return after a string of PG-13 films which didn’t fit Terminators style. The action looks huge and the plot looks to be going back to basics, Arnold looks as awesome and Overpowered as ever (dude needs to be a Smash Bros character). The reason why this isn’t number one is because of the history of the series promising something great and ending up being total crap. That being said the whole “gone woke” bullshit that’s been thrown around about this movie is terrible and completely not fair as they’re been a lot of hard work put into this movie.

1. Joker

Yes Joker is my number one for Autumn and Winter seasons of 2019, this has been a very interesting movie to follow right from it’s announcement. I remember people actually being angry due to the Joker getting an origin story but honestly considering it’s not part of the DCEU (if that’s even still a thing anymore) but it’s also more of a What If type of story that not selling itself as THE origin for the prince of crime. Todd Phillips was always an interesting choice to direct it but considering the dark humour in the Hangover films and War Dogs it does make sense why they picked him to write and direct this movie. The tone looks great with dark bleak realistic look at Gotham during 1981 and also has more of a Martin Scorsese to it and Is very much like Taxi Driver. Overall Joker is my number 1 film from this the Autumn and Winter seasons of 2019 and considering it got a standing ovation after its first screening I think I’ve picked the right one.

Dishonourable Mention

Downton Abbey

Why…..just….just why
